YouTube a Front for Terrorism?

Recently Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman sent a letter to the Google Chairman and CEO requesting that Islamic terrorist videos be removed from the popular video hosting service YouTube. Lieberman claims that "Islamist terrorist organizations use YouTube to disseminate their propaganda, enlist followers, and provide weapons training."

I don't know about other people, but I don't go on YouTube thinking, "Today I think I'm going to join a terrorist organization." And I'm fairly certain that the number of terrorists recruited on YouTube probably isn't that high.

Its seems to me that politicians have forgotten about the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Also several of them seem to have the delusional belief that terrorism is something that can be combated with force and even more terrorism, or as some Americans like to put it, "liberation." I suppose this is just another instance of the belief that violence solves everything.

Unless everyone in the world chooses to lay down their weapons, join hands, and sing "Kumbaya," there will always be war, terrorism, and people that just plain hate each other. I'm not sure who in America started this whole "everyone has to like else or else" mentality, but it is clearly a ridiculous idea. But what do I know? Maybe Americans enjoy sacrificing their freedom just to gain an imaginary feeling of safety.

I had a public lecture today concerning liberty, the main premise was based on Hobbes, where man shall sacrifice his freedom in return for an absolute state...Whilst I disagreed strongly, I agreed that humans are notoriously bad judges, hence if our only viable options are a neo-liberal democracy or a socialist regime, I'll have to accept the former....Unless someone provides me with a more humanist alternative.
The problem with the neo-liberal pardigm is, it is essentially the politics of seperation. Which leads to marginalisation, which is where terrorists are born (or so I'd like to argue). Whilst banning of terrorist propaganda is a noble objective, I doubt it will achieve much.

We are taught to look at the past to learn our mistakes. Why is it that since the begining of civilization, man participates in war to show "their way" is best only to show what destruction it can lead to. The obsession with power will never die.

suitableboy- It sad that a neo-liberal democracy is one of the best forms of government, but I suppose complete freedom is unrealistic in a world with so much hate and conflict.

marie- I agree. People just seem to have a natural thrist for power which leads to conflicts and destruction.
